Starting a business from the basement

This will be a very simple story about how we managed to open our own furniture/design online store. The story of Comfo store began approximately two years ago in Georgia. Personally, I have less connection to Georgia, but my brother spent several years living there and, over time, gained many trustworthy friends, colleagues, and partners with whom he maintains both professional and friendly relationships on a daily basis. Our Georgian colleagues told us that they had recently visited several exhibitions in Turkey, which is no surprise since Georgians and Turks maintain very good relations. Over time, we established more and more contacts, and several large Turkish furniture manufacturers became our allies, which allowed us to successfully develop the Comfo online store in Georgia.

Then it was time to expand to Latvia, but the process was, of course, much more complicated, starting with logistics, as we are not a neighboring country of Turkey, and Turkey is not part of the European Union. This continued with all the bureaucratic processes involved in importing goods from Turkey to Latvia. These processes took a bit more time than initially planned, followed by the creation of the website itself and establishing partnerships with local logistics companies. Slowly but surely, all the processes moved forward, and with the help of several friends and colleagues, this online store in Latvia was launched. In Georgia, the Comfo brand has already become quite well-known, with more than 60K followers on the FB platform, and sales have grown to the point where a large warehouse is needed. Meanwhile, in Latvia, this is just the beginning. And if anyone is wondering whether we are actually operating from a basement or if it’s just a catchy title, I can honestly say—yes, we are in a basement, but it’s a very cool basement. Our approach to marketing will also be slightly different, as we will try to communicate with the end user as much as possible, keeping people informed about the current status of orders, the availability of products in the online store, and deliveries, via our SM accounts.
